The Solar & Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), launched December 2, 1995, is a cooperative project of the European Space Agency and NASA. The satellite was built by Europe and launched by the USA. Ultraviolet light images captured by the Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) aboard SOHO help us understand what is happening on the Sun from day to day. The numbers 171, 195, 284 and 304 refer to the extreme ultraviolet light wavelength in Angstroms. It also has two coronagraphs to study the Sun's outer atmosphere. Daily images are available online and via the "SoHO Viewer" app for the iPAD available in the App Store. Images update frequently and can be refreshed in the app.
